It seems apropos that while I'm trying to figure out how the hell to write something longer than 100 to 5,000 words,
Chuck Wendig over at
terribleminds put together a
post on creating a novel. Unfortunately, I'm stuck between numbers one and two...and it goes all the way to 25. Gulp.
So, are you needing help to get to word 3?
ReplyDeleteOr, are you writing a novel and need help?
Or, am I not being literal enough, and you are like the dust commercial with the guy stuck between K & J, except you are stuck between the numeral keys of 1 and 2?
I'm the dust.
ReplyDelete(Great visual.)
I need help developing the novel to a place where I can actually write something. I have a vague idea of a woman who unravels. I want to explore the idea of unraveling and the freedom that comes with that. And that's as far as I've gotten. Every time I sit down to write, everything escapes me. So maybe I'm overthinking things?
My short stories pop out as a few opening sentences and the characters develop and BOOM, it's done.
What about doing one of those writing thingies:
ReplyDeleteStart with the beginning, or
start with the middle, or
start with the end.
And, as far as a novel goes, don't hold to fast to what you think it is now being what it will be later ;-)
